The fear of speaking in front of people causes havoc with your nervous system and manifests as palpitations, adrenaline rush, upset stomach, sweating, blushing, shaking, shivering or freezing up. These symptoms often start at the mere thought of presenting.
Typically there is nothing you can do about it; trying to calm down rarely works, and then it gets worse.
At that level of anxiety your reptilian brain takes over. This means that you lose access to your thinking mind, become less intelligent and are more likely to freeze, stutter or stumble over your words, forget what you wanted to say and say things you never intended to say. This rarely plays out well, and afterwards you likely feel embarrassed by how it went. This, of course, only make you more nervous the next time you have to present, and so a nasty cycle starts.
There are usually very specific reasons why speaking in front of people freaks you out. More importantly, there is a way that helps most people overcome their intense phobic response, so that their thinking brain keeps functioning, and they can be much calmer during presentations.
This session uses Energy Psychology, a simple self-help tool that reduces cortisol (a stress hormone in your body), adrenaline and anxiety.
